Towards the end of April we received a phone call from a distressed lady who had three collies. The dogs had belonged to her mom who had recently passed away. The lady was on benefits, finding it impossible to cope with the three dogs and needed urgent help in rehoming the dogs. More worrying was that she told us one of the dogs was ill and couldn't walk. She had no transport, no friends and unless she carried the dog she couldn't get the dog to a vet.
She been in touch with a number of organisations but no one was able or prepared to offer any help. We immediately offered help and within an hour and a half the dog was being seen by a vet. The dog aged about 5 only weighed 8 kilos and whilst we could all ask questions about why the dog was in this state it was later obvious that the other two were probably getting the majority of whatever food the woman could afford and was providing. Subsequently we discovered that he has limited vision.
The following day we collected the dog from the vet and the other two from her home. Ben spent another night at our vet as he was dehydrated and being on a drip helped considerably.
As always seems to be the way in these type of cases he's a real softy and we're sure he'll make a super companion for the right person who will need to be very understanding of his needs. His weight is increasing steadily but surely and he has put on 3 kilos in the first two weeks with us.
We don't often feature dogs and show photos but feel Ben is worthy of an extra bit of publicity!! With quite an overshot jaw he certainly has real "character"
He has lived with other dogs and despite his problems seems to mix well. He is obviously shy and because he'll need a quiet home where things like furniture doesn't get moved around a lot and he can learn to find his way about without obsructions keep appearing, we feel he would be best in home with children over the age of 10 years. If you have that special home please do contact us.
